Get to Meet Sor. Studio Owner - Ange.
Relocating to the Sunshine Coast from Darwin, NT in 2017, Ange moved to pursue her University studies completing a B. Exercise & Nutrition Science at The University of Sunshine Coast, and M. Human Nutrition at Deakin University.
We sat down with Ange to ask a few questions behind building the path to SOR. Studios.
Where did the concept behind sor. Studios first begin?
Throughout my studies I was racing in Half Marathon events throughout Queensland. As most eager athletes do, I was determined to find a form of resistance & strength training that would be the ideal compliment to my high impact and high load sport. This path led me to Pilates, which instantly had a significant impact on my training, performance and recovery. I was swift in my decision to complete training in Clinical & Rehabilitation Pilates to further my skill set and share this benefit with the greater community. Thus – sor. Studios was born.
Is there a reason you place emphasis on the athletic and high performance background of your practice?
Having studied within the industry, worked with high performing athletes and representing state for varying sports, I knew there was a significant gap to be filled within the high performance realm. Pilates at that stage was seen purely as feminine and clinical – and my aim is to change the narrative ensuring inclusivity for genders and athletic abilities. I placed significant emphasis on high performance and athletes as this is my background and my passion, and because I truly believe the benefits of Pilates style training for building more durable and sustainable movement is worth emphasizing.
What are your plans for sor. Studios after recently reaching your 1 year milestone?
Continuing to grow and share the movement method behind our space to an even larger scale. At the end of the day, I created this space to provide a service that caters to anyone who wishes to enhance their performance, gain more self awareness within their movement, and reduce the onset of injury through strategic movement. So being able to continue to build this capacity and expand our community for more to experience and see is
Give us an insight into the in’s and out’s of running sor. Studios.
Our space is driven by our community. With our classes running at a personable capacity and our programming being progressive and strategic – the essence of what I and my staff do is for our community. I am lucky enough to have developed such meaningful relationships with our members having worked solely in the studio for the first year. Outside of in-studio classes and privates, I do all of the administration and marketing, so my role is very diverse and allows me to utilize all of my creative outlets. It has also allowed me to build invaluable relationships with other small business owners and creatives on the coast which just drives me to continue learning and growing.
